Sam is a graduating from the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and is currently on course to achieve a first-class BSc Hons (1:1) in Broadcast Audio and Music Technology from the University of the West of England, Bristol, UK. It is a technical computer science degree with a focus on audio, and covers technical and creative C/C++ coding, as well broadcast audio, field and studio recording, and live sound. It is a JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support) accredited course and is “amongst the best in the UK and of international standing”.

He has over 5 years experience in the live events industry working on everything from small scale student society events to large-scale events such as UWE Fresher’s where which involves orchestrating a successful events programme with over 20,000 tickets being sold and a budget of over £200,000. He has excellent sound and lighting engineering skills, and has implemented a comprehensive event technician training programme at The Students’ Union at UWE. He is also an accomplished DJ having played at multiple venues around the UK and supporting many high profile acts such as Friend Within, Shy FX and Craig David.

With a keen interest in music technology and DJing, Sam has developed a Raspberry Pi based Digital Vinyl System (DVS) for DJs to play digital music files on a conventional vinyl turntable without the need for a separate laptop or sound card. The dissertation project involved conducting user experience research into existing DJ hardware and software, as well as DJ use cases giving him a sound understanding of the DJ technology industry.
